Sessions include:
July 12: Become a Food Systems Detective
Learn through an interactive activity how food gets into your pantry and into your hands, and what happens when you throw away the empty packaging.
July 19: Food Systems Scavenger Hunt
Go on a scavenger hunt to find out about our community’s food system and its strengths, weaknesses, and resiliency.
July 26: What Goes In Must Come Out
Learn what it takes to produce the food we eat, the harmful outputs that come from producing such large amounts, and how making informed food choices can eventually contribute to beneficial changes.
August 2: Be A Food Systems Investigator
In this session youth will learn the key players in the production of our food with different roles, responsibilities and perspectives, along with the different career tracks available in the food production industry.
August 9: Ask an Elder: What is Your Childhood Food Story?
Youth will interview someone who grew up at least 30 years ago to get a sense of how advertising, costs, accessibility, and trends have affected their food choices at different points in their life.
August 16: Kitchen Waste Analysis: Consequences of Food
Youth will sort through a virtual kitchen trash can to learn how to properly sort waste. They’ll also see how proper food disposal, good planning, and a good waste management system can also save money and reduce environmental impact.
